When is the deadline to buy extra baggage online?

How does Indonesia AirAsia calculate extra baggage charges?

Checked baggage is sold by weight tier (20, 25, 30, 40, 50 or 60 kg per person per way; sports equipment 15–40 kg), not per piece. Official QZ prices are published in IDR plus AUD, BND, MYR, SGD, THB and USD for international routes. Prices depend on route (domestic/international), weight tier and purchase channel/timing.

Is it cheaper to buy extra baggage online vs at the airport?

Mostly yes: pre-booking online wins at higher tiers and avoids steep per-kg excess fees (IDR 210,000/kg international). But the airport-counter first-20-kg flat rate (IDR 750,000 international) is lower than the online initial-booking 20 kg rate (IDR 880,000), and counters honour pre-book rates 4+ hours before departure. Gate baggage (IDR 900,000 international / IDR 540,000 domestic) is the most expensive option.

How much extra baggage can I buy?

Up to 60 kg per person per way. Each guest may purchase one checked baggage allowance per booking per flight. No single bag may exceed 32 kg or 119cm (H) x 81cm (W) x 119cm (L); bags above 32 kg are refused. 50/60 kg tiers have limited units per flight.

What happens if my bag is overweight or exceeds my allowance?

Weight above your purchased or complimentary allowance is charged per kg at the prevailing airport rate on the day of travel, billed in the departure country's currency (domestic IDR 135,000/kg; international IDR 210,000/kg). It can only be paid at check-in on the day of departure; on connecting flights it is charged per guest per kg per way. Arrive at least 3 hours early if travelling with excess baggage.

Can I get a refund on extra baggage?

Once baggage weight has been purchased, it is non-refundable. Unused allowance cannot be transferred except by pooling/sharing with companions on the same itinerary (booking number) checking in together.

Are there any important exceptions I should know?

Indonesia domestic (QZ) flights include 15 kg complimentary checked baggage by default. Checked baggage and sports equipment cannot be combined — buy a sports equipment allowance for sports items (1 x 15 kg surfboard flies free under the Free Surfboard Policy). Gate baggage fees do not apply to promotional and purchase fares.
