FAQ

Can I buy extra baggage online after booking?

Yes. You can add baggage and other optional services online during the booking flow or after booking through 'Administra tu vuelo' on JetSMART.com, as well as via the Contact Center and at the airport, subject to space and weight availability on the aircraft.

Where do I buy extra baggage?

On JetSMART.com during the initial booking, or after booking on the 'Administra tu vuelo' page ('Administra tu Viaje' section) by entering your booking code (e.g. NCJX98) and last name. Baggage is also sold through the Contact Center, at the airport counter, and (except oversized and excess-weight bags) at the boarding gate.

When is the best time to buy extra baggage?

The cheapest prices are during the initial booking. After-booking online prices are higher but generally still cheaper than (or at most equal to) the airport or gate prices — e.g. the Argentina cabin bag after-booking starting price matches the counter price. Oversized baggage cannot be bought at the boarding gate, and excess-weight fees apply only at the airport counter. Buying on JetSMART.com always costs less than at the airport.

How does JetSMART calculate extra baggage charges?

JetSMART publishes starting prices ('Desde') per route market (Chile, Argentina, Peru, Colombia, International) and per purchase moment (during booking, after booking, airport counter, boarding gate). Prices also vary by flight date, route and availability, and the exact amount is shown at purchase time.

How many bags can I check and what are the size and weight limits?

Up to 5 checked bags per passenger (each max 23 kg and 158 linear cm). Cabin bag limited to 1 per passenger (max 10 kg, 55 x 35 x 25 cm). Oversized bags limited to 3 per passenger. One personal item per passenger is free (max 10 kg, 45 x 35 x 25 cm).

Is it cheaper to buy extra baggage online vs at the airport?

Yes. Online purchase on JetSMART.com is always cheaper: for example a Chile-domestic checked bag starts at $13.000 CLP during booking versus $30.000 CLP at the airport counter; an international checked bag starts at $27.5 USD during booking versus $60 USD at the counter.

What are the overweight or oversized baggage rules?

Checked or oversized bags weighing over 23 kg up to 32 kg incur a fixed excess-weight fee, payable only at the airport counter. Bags over 32 kg are never accepted. If you have not bought the bag itself, you pay both the bag price and the excess-weight fee. Oversized means over 158 up to 230 linear cm (max 23 kg); surfboards up to 300 linear cm and properly packed guitars or basses are accepted as oversized.

Are there any important exceptions or restrictions I should know?

On connecting flights you only reclaim baggage when arriving from another country and continuing domestically (INT-DOM), except in Colombia where baggage goes through to the final destination. If you bought a cabin bag but cabin space runs out, it may travel in the hold at no extra cost. A purchased cabin bag can be exchanged for a hold bag at the counter; arrive 2 hours early for domestic and 3 hours for international flights. If you add optionals after downloading or printing your boarding pass, download or print it again.
