How does Malaysia Airlines calculate extra baggage charges?

Most routes use a weight concept: charges are per kg based on a 5-zone system (USD 15–USD 72/kg depending on origin/destination zones). Routes to/from North America, South America or Africa use a piece concept (USD 280 per extra piece; USD 83 Economy overweight to 32 kg).

Yes. Extra baggage is only available for Malaysia Airlines (MH) operated flights. It is not valid for MASwings, interline, or codeshare flights.

How much extra baggage can I buy?

There is no stated limit to the number of pieces you may check, as long as total weight does not exceed your allowance plus purchased extra. Each piece must not exceed 32 kg (70 lb) and must measure under 158 cm (62 in) total linear dimensions; 158–204 cm pieces are oversized and pieces over 204 cm go via MASKargo.

What happens to my extra baggage if I change or miss my flight?

For voluntary changes, extra baggage carries over only if all criteria are met (same booking reference, same origin and destination, MH-operated flights, unchanged passenger details, space availability, no domestic/international mixing), arranged via MH ticket offices or the call centre. If you miss your flight, extra baggage cannot be used on the next flight.
