How many extra bags can I buy, and what are the bag limits?

Accepted Answer

Up to 10 extra pieces can be added per booking. Each piece max 23 kg in economy (24–32 kg counts as heavy and is charged extra) and max 32 kg overall — pieces over 32 kg are not accepted as checked baggage. Each piece must not exceed 158 cm in total dimensions.

What are the overweight or oversized baggage rules?

Accepted Answer

Heavy baggage (24–32 kg, economy) is charged at the heavy-piece fee (e.g. USD 35–110 on sampled international routes from Almaty, KZT 10,400 domestic). Oversized baggage over 158 cm needs prior approval and payment is accepted at the airport only (extra handling fees such as the AED 45 DNATA fee at Dubai may apply).

Do partner-operated or codeshare flights have different baggage rules?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Prepaid MyBAGGAGE is available on Air Astana-operated flights only. On interline, codeshare or multi-carrier routes the baggage rates and rules of the operating or dominant carrier apply.

Are there any important exceptions or restrictions I should know?

Accepted Answer

Prepaid baggage cannot be transferred to other passengers and cannot be paid with TDCs, gift cards or vouchers. Departures from Delhi incur an additional tax. For itineraries with transfers under 36 hours the charge applies once for the whole journey; with stopovers over 36 hours it applies per segment. Nomad Club members get complimentary additional baggage benefits.
