    • One extra exempt article (laptop case, garment bag or diaper bag) travels free if it meets the same size limits.

How to Add Extra Baggage & Prices on JetSMART Peru

Buy Baggage
  1. Go to jetsmart.com on the Peru site and either start a new booking or open “Administra tu viaje” (https://jetsmart.com/pe/es/minisitios/administra-tu-vuelo) for an existing reservation.
  2. Enter the passenger last name or booking email plus the booking code (código de reserva / localizador, e.g. NCJX98) and press “Continuar” to retrieve the reservation.
  3. In the booking flow or under “Administra tu viaje”, open the baggage opcionales and choose Equipaje de mano, Equipaje de bodega or Equipaje sobredimensionado.
  4. Review the final price and conditions shown before purchase, then complete payment with an accepted card, bank transfer or gift card.
  5. If you add opcionales after downloading or printing your boarding pass, download/print it again so the added opcionales are registered.

Yes. Add baggage during booking on jetsmart.com or afterwards via “Administra tu viaje” with your last name or booking email plus booking code, subject to space and weight availability. Buying on JetSMART.com is always cheaper than at the airport.

Where do I buy extra baggage?

On jetsmart.com (during booking or “Administra tu viaje”), via the Contact Center (adds a $12.000 CLP / 19 USD fee per passenger per itinerary), or directly at the airport counter or boarding gate.

When is the deadline to buy extra baggage online?

No fixed cutoff time is published. Prices follow four timing tiers — during booking is cheapest, then after booking, then airport counter, then boarding gate — so buying earlier always costs less. If you add opcionales after downloading your boarding pass, download it again.

Is it cheaper to buy extra baggage online in advance vs at the airport?

Yes. For example a Peru domestic checked bag starts at Desde $8 USD during booking vs Desde $25 USD at the counter and Desde $32 USD at the gate; an international checked bag starts at Desde $27,5 USD during booking vs Desde $60 USD at the counter and Desde $65 USD at the gate.

How many extra bags can I buy, and what are the bag limits?

Small personal item: 1 per passenger, max 10 kg and 45 x 35 x 25 cm, included. Cabin bag: 1 per passenger, max 10 kg and 55 x 35 x 25 cm, paid. Checked bag: up to 5 per passenger, max 23 kg and 158 linear cm, paid. Oversized bag: up to 3 per passenger, max 23 kg and 158–230 linear cm (surfboards to 300 cm), paid. Capacity is limited and the opcional may be unavailable on full flights.

What are the overweight or oversized baggage rules?

No bag may exceed 23 kg as its base allowance; bags weighing over 23 kg up to 32 kg pay an excess surcharge starting at Desde $30 USD Peru domestic and Desde $35 USD international at the airport counter only, and bags over 32 kg are refused in all cases. Oversized bags (158–230 linear cm, surfboards to 300 cm; guitars/basses in cases count) must be handed over at the JetSMART counter and be properly packed in a single piece.

How does the airline calculate extra baggage charges?

All baggage prices are “Desde” (from) starting prices that depend on the route market (Peru domestic vs international, both priced in USD), the purchase timing tier, availability, and the flight date and route. The final price and conditions are detailed before you pay.

Do partner-operated or codeshare flights have different baggage rules?

If you bought your flight via American Airlines, the manage-booking page directs you to a separate link to view those reservation details, so partner-ticket baggage handling may differ. No other codeshare-specific baggage rules are published on the Peru pages.

Can I pay for extra baggage with cards, loyalty points, or miles?

On JetSMART.com you can pay with national or international credit and debit cards, bank transfer (Peru-issued accounts only, minimum $60 USD), or JetSMART gift cards. Contact Center purchases accept credit cards only. No miles/points payment for baggage is published.

Can I get a refund or transfer extra baggage if I cancel or change my booking?

No refunds: all sales are final and prepaid opcionales are not refunded, only boarding taxes (tasas de embarque) can be reclaimed. If you change your flight, opcionales carry over to the new flight or the closest equivalent, with any fare difference kept as credit toward the change fee.

Are there any important exceptions or restrictions I should know?

On connecting itineraries you only re-check baggage when arriving from another country onto a domestic connection (INT–DOM, including customs); DOM–DOM, DOM–INT and INT–INT bags go straight through, and connections in Colombia never require re-check. Valuables and electronics must travel as hand baggage since JetSMART disclaims liability for them in checked bags.
