Buy Baggage
  1. Go to airchangan.com and open the '托运行李' (Checked Baggage) entry page, and read the '行李餐食选座值机须知' notice for the current pricing and rules.
  2. Scan the QR code on the Checked Baggage page to open the Hainan Airlines WeChat mini-program, or open the Hainan Airlines APP/mini-program directly (standalone baggage purchase on the Air Changan website has been retired). Alternatively call the 24-hour sales hotline 95071199.
  3. Enter your booking details as prompted and select the prepaid weight tier you need (5–40 kg; the website tiers exclude the 7 kg option).
  4. Complete payment no later than 60 minutes before scheduled departure while the ticket is in unchecked-in status — cancel check-in first if already checked in.
  5. After the product is used, issue the e-invoice in the Hainan Airlines APP/mini-program under Service Hall – Arrival Services – Reimbursement Vouchers – E-invoice – Ancillary Services; for refunds before check-in, apply in Order Management.

Yes. Buy prepaid weight allowance online via the Hainan Airlines APP, Hainan Airlines WeChat mini-program, the Air Changan call center (95071199), or authorized OTAs (Ctrip, Tongcheng, Hanglv Zongheng, Hangban Guanjia). Standalone purchase on the Air Changan website has been retired; the site's Checked Baggage page shows a QR code directing buyers to the Hainan Airlines mini-program.

How many extra bags can I buy, and what are the bag limits?

Online prepaid allowance caps at 40 kg per purchase. Carry-on is limited to one piece up to 7 kg (20 × 40 × 30 cm, or 20 × 40 × 55 cm for W/R class and Haitian Unlimited products). Weight beyond the online allowance is topped up at the check-in counter; unused allowance is non-refundable. Infants on infant tickets have no free checked allowance but may carry one fully-foldable stroller/bassinet up to 7 kg. Disabled passengers' essential aids (folding wheelchair, cane, prosthesis) are carried free. Platinum/Gold Fortune Wings members get an extra 30 kg, Silver an extra 20 kg, VIPs an extra 20 kg and CIPs an extra 10 kg.

How does the airline calculate extra baggage charges?

Pricing is weight-based per kilogram in three flight-distance bands (0–800 km excluding 800 km; 800–1,600 km excluding 1,600 km; 1,600 km and above). Counter rates are CNY 15/20/25 per kg by band. Online advance purchase is discounted to 80% of the counter rate in non-self-operated regions and 90% in the Xi'an self-operated region. Packages are sold in fixed tiers up to 40 kg; the website tiers exclude the 7 kg option.

Is it cheaper to buy extra baggage online in advance vs at the airport?

Yes. Advance online purchase costs 80% of the counter rate outside Xi'an and 90% in Xi'an. At the airport, the check-in counter charges the full per-kg band rate and the boarding gate charges a flat CNY 240 per piece.

What are the overweight or oversized baggage rules?

Excess and overweight allowance is only sold at the airport counter and gate, not online. The airline states counter excess rates follow the CAAC formula of 1.5% of the sector full fare per kg (rounded to the yuan), applied in practice through the published CNY 15/20/25 per-kg distance bands and the CNY 240 per-piece gate rate.

Can I get a refund or transfer extra baggage if I cancel or change my booking?

Voluntary refund before check-in: apply in Order Management and the fare returns to the original account within 7 working days with no handling fee; no refund after check-in whether or not the allowance was used. Involuntary refunds are accepted with no fee. Prepaid allowance cannot be changed alone: for a ticket date change, refund all ancillaries first (or call 95071199 for call-center bookings) and rebuy after the change; counter purchases are changed free of charge at the counter.

Do partner-operated or codeshare flights have different baggage rules?

Since 10 October 2024 (sales and flight date), the Nanyang–Xi'an and Nanyang–Sanya sectors have closed online and call-center prepaid baggage sales — buy at the departure airport counter. Since 15 October 2024, the Xi'an–Chongqing route no longer uses baggage differentiation and its online/call-center prepaid sales are closed. Passengers transferred from Air Changan to another carrier may apply for a prepaid allowance refund; passengers transferred in from another carrier's economy class are guaranteed 20 kg, with the excess charged at the overweight rate.

Are there any important exceptions or restrictions I should know?

Online and call-center prepaid sales are closed on Nanyang–Xi'an, Nanyang–Sanya (since 10 October 2024) and Xi'an–Chongqing (since 15 October 2024) — buy at the departure airport counter. Fares below 54% (V/N/A/U/T) carry no free checked allowance. Prepaid allowance cannot be changed on its own when the ticket date changes.
