  1. Go to chinaexpressair.com and open the prepaid excess-baggage zone (the excess-baggage page with the origin / destination / KG fee calculator).
  2. Enter origin, destination and extra weight in KG in the fee calculator and search for the price.
  3. Select the weight package (5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 or 40 kg) and complete payment online at least 2 hours before scheduled departure.
  4. To buy by phone, call the 95332 service hotline; to buy at the airport, go to the check-in counter for an excess slip, pay at the excess-baggage counter, then return to the counter with the receipt to check the bag.
  5. After the flight arrives, get the electronic invoice for excess baggage via the China Express WeChat mini-program.

How does the airline calculate extra baggage charges?

Excess baggage is sold as fixed weight packages of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 or 40 kg. The online prepaid price depends on the flight distance band (0-800 km, 800-1600 km, or over 1600 km) and the package size. On international routes, excess over the weight allowance is instead charged at 1.5% of the highest published one-way economy fare per kg.

Is it cheaper to buy extra baggage online in advance vs at the airport?

Yes. Online prepaid packages are fixed per-package prices (for example CNY 45-320 on routes under 800 km), while the airport counter charges per kilogram (CNY 10/kg under 800 km, CNY 13/kg for 800-1600 km, CNY 15/kg above 1600 km), and the boarding gate charges CNY 200 per piece.

How many extra bags can I buy, and what are the bag limits?

Each checked piece may weigh at most 50 kg and measure at most 40 x 60 x 100 cm on domestic routes (32 kg per piece and 200 cm total dimensions on international routes). Prepaid packages cover 5-40 kg of excess weight per flight. Oversized cabin bags brought to the gate are charged CNY 200 per piece only if time, safety and size conditions allow.

What are the overweight or oversized baggage rules?

There is no separate per-piece overweight surcharge on domestic routes: any weight above the free allowance is charged through the excess-baggage packages or counter per-kg rates. Single pieces over the 50 kg domestic limit (32 kg international limit) cannot be checked and must be repacked or shipped as cargo.

Can I get a refund or transfer extra baggage if I cancel or change my booking?

Prepaid baggage credit follows the ticket when it is rebooked under the same ticket number. Prepaid credit cannot be transferred to another airline. Before departure with no check-in, a full refund is available through the original channel; after check-in, cancel check-in first; after departure with an unused ticket, refund after the ticket refund; used tickets are not refunded. Prepaid amounts follow a use-it-or-lose-it rule: leftover credit is not refunded and cannot be reused.

Are there any important exceptions or restrictions I should know?

Free checked allowance depends on fare class: some discount economy fares include 0 kg, most discount fares 10 kg, full-fare economy 20 kg and business 30 kg - always confirm the allowance shown for your fare at booking. Military and fire-rescue passengers with valid credentials and disabled passengers with valid certificates are guaranteed 20 kg free in economy and 30 kg in business regardless of fare class. Infant tickets include no free allowance but one stroller free (carried or checked). Codeshare, through and connecting flights follow the operating carrier's baggage standard.
