Yes. Domestic extra weight (5–40 kg packages) can be bought on luckyair.net, via the Hainan Airlines app/mini-program, or by calling 95326. International extra pieces (1–5 per sector) can be prepaid on luckyair.net. International overweight or oversized bags cannot be prepaid and are paid at the airport on the travel day.

Domestic prepaid baggage must be bought more than 60 minutes before departure and before checking in or selecting seats. International prepaid baggage must be bought more than 6 hours before departure and before check-in/seat selection. After the cutoff, extra baggage can only be bought at the airport.

How does the airline calculate extra baggage charges?

Domestic charges are weight-based by flight distance band (0–800 km, 800–1600 km, 1600 km+). International and regional charges are piece-based by region (Asia incl. Hong Kong/Macau/Taiwan excl. Japan/Korea; Japan/Korea; Europe), with separate tiers for overweight (23–28 kg, 28–32 kg), extra pieces (1st, 2nd, 3rd+), and oversize (158–203 cm). Overweight, extra-piece, and oversize fees stack when more than one applies.

Is it cheaper to buy extra baggage online in advance vs at the airport?

Yes. Domestic online pre-purchase starts at 20% off the airport counter rate (other-city departures pay exactly 80%; Kunming/Chengdu/Ganzhou departures slightly less discount, varying by route). International online pre-purchase of extra pieces is 10% off (9折) the airport rate. Prepaid amounts follow a 'no refund for overpayment, pay the shortfall' rule: any underpaid weight or pieces must be topped up at the airport counter.

How many extra bags can I buy, and what are the bag limits?

One checked piece must weigh 2–32 kg with total dimensions of 40–203 cm. Domestic online pre-purchase allows 5–40 kg in 5 kg steps per ticket (one purchase per ticket, non-repeatable, non-transferable). International online pre-purchase allows 1–5 extra pieces per passenger per sector. Cabin bags are limited to 7 kg domestic (1 piece economy, 2 pieces business) and up to 10 kg per piece in international business.

What are the overweight or oversized baggage rules?

On international and regional routes, overweight fees apply only to premium and economy cabins. Bags over 32 kg or 203 cm total dimensions must be split and repacked; items that cannot be split must go as cargo. On differentiated domestic routes, a cabin bag bigger than the free 20 cm × 30 cm × 40 cm but within 20 cm × 40 cm × 55 cm costs CNY 240 per piece at the gate.

Can I get a refund or transfer extra baggage if I cancel or change my booking?

Online prepaid baggage: before departure, or after departure if the ticket is unused, request a refund on the original purchase platform; if the ticket was already used, call 95326. Refund applications must be made within one year of purchase. Airport-counter purchases are refunded at the origin airport (domestic: within one month of purchase with receipt). Standalone prepaid baggage cannot be changed — refund it and buy again; domestic tickets bought together with baggage change automatically at no extra fee when the ticket is changed.

Are there any important exceptions or restrictions I should know?

Xingtai departures (routes not yet under the differentiated-baggage policy) charge 1.5% of the full one-way economy fare per excess kg instead of the standard table. Online pre-purchase does not support infant tickets or through (connecting) tickets. On the Lijiang–Haiphong special route, excess weight costs CNY 40/kg from Lijiang and VND 140,000/kg from Haiphong. For domestic-international connections under 24 hours, the domestic segment follows the international free allowance but excess fees are charged per segment.
