FAQ

Can I buy extra baggage online after booking?

Yes. Buy checked baggage in advance on vietjetair.com (My booking), the VietJet/Thai VietJet mobile app, via the call center, ticket offices or agents, at least 3 hours before scheduled departure.

Where do I buy extra baggage?

On vietjetair.com via My booking ('Buy baggage, meals, select seat and more...'), the mobile app, call center (+66-2-089-1909 for Thai VietJet), ticket offices and agents; or at the airport check-in counter and boarding gate at higher rates.

When is the deadline to buy extra baggage online?

Online pre-purchase is available from booking until at least 3 hours before scheduled departure, with the cheapest tier within 24 hours of booking. At the airport, baggage can be bought from 3 hours before departure until check-in closes.

How does the airline calculate extra baggage charges?

Weight-based packages from 20 kg to 70 kg per passenger per sector (up to 100 kg on Australia/Kazakhstan/Europe routes). Prices depend on route group and on purchase timing: within 24 hours of booking is cheapest, after 24 hours up to 3 hours before departure costs more, and airport purchase is most expensive. All published figures are the group VietJet Air (VJ) tariff in VND; other currencies are converted at company-set exchange rates and exclude VAT.

How many extra bags can I buy, and what are the bag limits?

Each passenger may pre-purchase one baggage package in advance. Each checked piece must not exceed 32 kg or 119 cm x 119 cm x 81 cm; no baggage over 32 kg is accepted. Oversized pieces are limited to 2 per passenger per sector. Carry-on is limited to 7 kg total (1 main + 1 small item).

Is it cheaper to buy extra baggage online in advance vs at the airport?

Yes. Pre-purchasing online is cheaper than the airport: e.g. a 20 kg South East Asia package costs 480,000 VND within 24 hours of booking or 580,000 VND later online, versus a 720,000 VND 20 kg package plus per-kg excess fees at the airport.

What are the overweight or oversized baggage rules?

Baggage exceeding the purchased allowance is charged per kilogram at check-in (e.g. 40,000 VND/kg domestic, 180,000 VND/kg South East Asia). Oversized items need a pre-booked oversized package (includes standard fee plus handling fee) or pay a 600,000 VND handling fee per piece at the airport after buying a checked allowance.

Can I get a refund or transfer extra baggage if I cancel or change my booking?

The airline states that the baggage charge is neither refundable nor transferable.
